Remington 700 5-R

Remington 700 5-R. A rifle(Buy Remington 700 5-R-223 rifles for sale-first rifle to buy) is a portable long-barrelled firearm designed for precision shooting, to be held with both hands and braced against the shoulder during firing, and with a barrel that has a helical pattern of grooves (“rifling“) cut into the bore walls. The term was originally rifled gun, with the word “rifle” referring to the machining process of creating grooving with cutting tools, and is now used for any long handheld device designed for aimed discharge activated by a trigger, such as air rifles and the personnel halting and stimulation response rifle. Rifles are used in warfare, hunting and shooting sports.

Like all typical firearms, a rifle’s projectile (bullet) is propelled by the contained deflagration of a combustible propellant compound (originally black powder, later cordite, and now nitrocellulose), although other means such as compressed air are used in air rifles, which are popular for vermin control, hunting small game, formal target shooting and casual shooting (“plinking“). The raised areas of the rifling are called “lands,” which make contact with the projectile, imparting a spin around the longitudinal axis of the barrel. When the projectile leaves the barrel, this spin lends gyroscopic stability to the projectile and prevents tumbling, in the same way that a properly spirally thrown American football or rugby ball behaves. This allows the use of aerodynamically-efficient bullets (as opposed to the spherical balls used in muskets) and thus improves range and accuracy.

Remington Arms Company, LLC is an American manufacturer of firearms and ammunition in the United States. It was founded in 1816 by Eliphalet Remington in Ilion, New York, as E. Remington and Sons. Remington is America’s oldest gun maker and is claimed to be America’s oldest factory that still makes its original product.[3] Remington is the largest U.S. producer of shotguns and rifles. The company has developed or adopted more cartridges than any other gun maker or ammunition manufacturer in the world.Until 2015, Remington Arms was part of the Freedom Group,[4] which is owned by Cerberus Capital Management. In 2014, a new plant was built in Huntsville, Alabama to produce AR-15 style semi-automatic rifles and Remington 1911 R1 pistols.[5][6] In 2015, the Freedom Group was renamed as Remington Outdoor Company. Remington filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, in March 2018,[7] having accumulated over $950 million in debt.

The Remington company was founded in 1816. Eliphalet Remington II (1793–1861) believed he could build a better gun than he could buy. Remington began designing and building a flintlock rifle for himself. At age 23 (in late 1816), he entered a shooting match; though he finished second, his well-made gun impressed other contestants. Before Remington left the field that day, he had received so many orders from other competitors that he had officially entered the gunsmithing business. By 1828, he moved his operation to nearby Ilion. This site is still used by the modern Remington firearms plant.

About 20 years ago, Remington released their first Remington 700 milspec 5R rifles which used actual surplus M24 barrels. The factory those barrels to a standard stainless steel action and that barreled action into a black HS Precision varmint stock with green webbing. Remington figured it was a good way to sell off those extra barrels unused barrels. What they didn’t count on was the popularity that these rifles would have. The price ran about $1100 and the rifles shot exceptionally well for a factory rifle. Fast forward 20 years and the 5R rifling has now become a major selling feature on rifles and Remington is still making 5R rifles, but they are not the same surplus M24 barreled versions. Now they have a second generation of the 5R rifles and they use their own purpose built barrels and that is what we are reviewing here. Of course, not only is the 5R rifling the hot thing to have, but so is the 6.5 Creedmoor cartridge and so our review rifle combines the two. It is a Remington 700 5R Gen 2 chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor. So lets take a look at what this rifle is..
